ABOUT THIS ROLE
We're hiring a Tax Manager to own state and local tax compliance for LVT as the company continues to scale rapidly. Reporting to the VP of Accounting, you will be the company's day-to-day tax expert — responsible for state and local income, franchise, sales and use, and property tax compliance, ownership of our tax determination systems, and support of the quarterly income tax provision and year-end audit. This role requires strong technical tax knowledge, a meticulous eye for detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and ownership are paramount.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
• State & Local Tax Compliance: Manage the preparation, review, and timely filing of state and local income, franchise, and gross receipts tax returns across all jurisdictions where LVT operates, including quarterly estimates and extensions.
• Property Tax: Own the end-to-end property tax function, including preparing and filing personal and real property tax renditions, reviewing assessments, managing appeals, and ensuring timely payment across all jurisdictions.
• Tax Provision: Review the quarterly and annual income tax provision (ASC 740), including effective tax rate calculations, deferred tax roll-forwards, and uncertain tax position analysis, in partnership with the Controller and outside tax advisors.
• Audit Support: Serve as a key contributor to all year-end audit work related to tax, including preparation and review of the income tax footnote, coordinating requests from EY, and ensuring audit-ready support for all tax positions.
• Tax Systems Ownership: Take full ownership of Avalara and related tax determination systems, ensuring sales and use tax is calculated, charged, and remitted correctly across all revenue streams; manage system configuration, exemption certificates, nexus settings, and integration with the ERP.
• Nexus Monitoring: Monitor multi-state nexus exposure as LVT expands into new jurisdictions and revenue models, and lead voluntary disclosure or registration efforts as needed.
• Tax Authority Correspondence: Respond to state and local tax notices and audits, manage relationships with taxing authorities, and resolve inquiries in a timely manner.
• Process Improvement: Identify, document, and implement process improvements and stronger internal controls across the tax function to increase accuracy and efficiency as LVT scales — because efficiency is our favorite four-letter word.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Legal, and Sales Operations to evaluate the tax impact of new products, contract structures, and business expansion, including into Canada.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
• Experience: 5+ years of progressive tax experience, with a concentration in state and local tax (income/franchise, sales and use, and property tax), ideally including time in public accounting.
• Technical Skills: Working knowledge of ASC 740 income tax provision concepts; hands-on experience with a sales/use tax determination platform (e.g., Avalara, Vertex, or similar) and a major ERP/accounting system.
• Mindset: Highly detail-oriented and organized, with strong research skills and the ability to manage multiple jurisdictions and filing deadlines simultaneously.
• Values: Alignment with LVT’s core values: Be the Crew, Own It, Chew the Strap, Do Right, and Pursue Excellence.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• CPA certification or CMI (Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation).
• Canada tax experience (GST/HST, provincial sales tax, or Canadian corporate tax compliance).
• Big 4 or national public accounting firm experience.
• Prior experience supporting a rapidly scaling, high-growth technology, hardware, or subscription-based company.
• Experience preparing or reviewing the income tax footnote in a public-company or audited financial statement context.
BENEFITS
We believe you do your best work when your whole life is supported. We invest in our crew’s health, families, and financial futures with a benefits package designed to support you inside and outside the office. Full-time benefits include, but not limited to: Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage, retirement benefits (401k match up to 4%), and flexible PTO.
